Hey everyone. I guess we are all in need of some vocabulary. In order to use verbs and give our opinions, we need some nouns too.

I won’t have too much to talk about in this guide but I will create a list of common food and drinks. Feel free to find your own vocabulary at SpanishDict and customise the way that you learn Spanish so that it’s right for you. I have sourced the below vocabulary from here and have added some extras and different ways to say things.

Remember, anything with el, la, los or las means the. You can replace el and la with un and una, to translate it from the something to a something.

el desayuno – the breakfast

el almuerzo – the lunch 

la comida –  the food

la cena – the dinner

¡Tengo hambre!  I’m hungry!

Mi hermano tiene hambre.  My brother is hungry.

Cuando tengo hambre, como …  When I’m hungry, I eat …

el pescado  fish

un pescado  a fish (to eat)

un pez  a fish (to look at / a pet) – not one to eat

la carne  meat

una pizza  a pizza

las patatas fritas  chips

el chocolate  chocolate

los caramelos  sweets

un pastel  a cake

un bocadillo  a filled baguette

un helado  an ice cream

un bocadillo de queso  a cheese baguette

un bocadillo de jamón  a ham baguette
(That’s ham NOT jam – remember the j sound?)

un helado de chocolate – a chocolate ice cream

un helado de fresa  a strawberry ice cream

un helado de vainilla  a vanilla ice cream
